Xinjiang Uygur Regional Museum

Locted in Urumqi Xibei Road, the Xinjiang Regional Museum is a large integrated museum and centre for the collection and study of cultural relics in Xinjiang. The museum architecture built in 1953 with featured Uighur ethnic internal decor style and has an exhibition hall covering an area of about 7,800 square meters (approx. 9,328 square yards).  

The museum houses over 30,000 collections. One of the hall exhits the costumes, festival, celebration, marriage wedding & funeral rites, tools, food, religion, lifestyle and more folk customs of 12 ethnic minority groups in Xinjiang. The historical exhibition covers silk, cotton, embroidery, pottery,  porcelain, iron & bronze wares, tomb clay figures, coins, stone inscriptions, literature writings, weapons and more relics. These give an insight into the past and show how the society of Xinjiang developed and the splendid western China's culture thousands of years ago.  

The display of ancient corpses is fantastic since a great number of ancient and well preserved remains were unearthed in Xinjiang region. These are quite different from the mummies in Egypt that were created by skilled embalming procedures; the Xinjiang corpses were dried by the particular natural environment. In all there are twenty-one specimens in the collection and include men, women, lovers, and generals. The 'Loulan beauty' is among the best preserved and famous ones in the museum. The 'Loulan beauty' has a reddish brown skin, thick eyelashes, charming large eyes, and long hair. This particular 'charming' corpse has survived for an estimated 4,000 years.

A visit to Xinjiang museum can bee paid all a year around. You can come here whenever to see the amazing human remains and all the other precious relics, and so learn more about the brilliant civilization that flourished in Xinjiang. With an abundance of cellections, the museum exhibition is widely known for its comprehensive and informative nature both at home and abroad.

Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 to 18:00 (Apr. 15 to Oct. 15; last entry at 17:00)
                   10:30 to 18:00 (Oct. 16 to Apr. 14; last entry at 17:00)

Tips:

1. The museum accept 2000 people a day, five times with 400 people each. Ticket issuing time is 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 16:00 in summer and 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 15:00, and 16:00 in winter.

2. The museum is closed on Monday (postponed when meeting a legal national holiday), on the New Year's Eve, the first and second day of the lunar new year.
3. Close on the above-mentioned time, the Exhibition Room of the ancient corpses is also not open to the public on every Thursday and Sunday.
