Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen - the great forerunner of the Chinese revolution, by the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese. Construction of the Hall began in 1929 and was completed in 1931 at the former location of the Presidential Palace in the city's central Yuexiu district.

The Memorial Hall is really a magnificent building in the shape of octagon, featuring at Chinese traditional architectural style; another miracle is that the whole building has a span of a distance at 71 meters without using pillar, by using the structural combination of a steel framework with concrete reinforcement.

Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall was badly damaged due to the lack of attention and totally recovered in 1988; sound equipment and other facilities have been installed and it is also a major site for conventions and performances.

In the front of the memorial hall is a statue of Sun Zhongshan set up in 1956. A golden slab with four Chinese characters of "Tian Xia Wei Gong" written by Sun Yat-Sen hangs above the front door of the memorial hall.

The hall presents many text and photos and life of Sun Zhongshan, making it a great place to learn experience about this great man.
