Guia Fort

Guia Fort, an old fort built in year 1637-1638, is one of the constructions listed in Historic Centre of Macao. It was set on the highest point of Macau, not only act as a defending fort, but also a great observation point that overlooking the Macao and the Pearl River estuary. 

 

Guia Fort has two famous attractions, Guia lighthouse and a Chapel in the style in the style of Portuguese heritages of the 17th century. The small chapel has a very simple alter, a few pictures and some colorful painting which spread from ceiling to walls.

 

The lighthouse, which is the dominating feature of the Fort, was built by a local-born Portuguese. It was first lit up on September 24, 1865, and is the oldest on the China coast. Standing only 16 feet tall, its beam can be seen from 20 miles at sea under good weather conditions. To this day, it provides a guiding beacon to the passing boats.
