Around 15 km in length, the Tiger Leaping Gorge is located 105 km from the Lijiang City. The river passes between the Jade Dragon Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain. The gorge got its name from a large rock that is positioned in the middle of the narrowest section of the river. Legend says that in order to escape from the hunter, a tiger used this rock as its stepping stone so it can leap across the river from Jade Dragon Mountain to the Haba Snow Mountain.

Its tranquil beauty and intact environment offer a refuge to the primitive forest, so Mount Wuyi is called the “Natural Arboretum” The best season to visit Wuyi Mountain is summer. Though the temperature is high in summer, it is the time when the all plants are of exuberance and the beauty of Mount Wuyi is of its most distinguishing features. The hottest month in Wuyi City is July. If you choose to visit the Mount Wuyi, you’d better stay in the hotel for a good rest from 12:00 to 15:00 in the afternoon, for it is too hot outside. You can go sightseeing after 15:00, when you can also enjoy the beauty of Wuyi Mountain.
