Datong is located at the northern China, and has continental monsoon climate with four distinguishing seasons. The average annual temperature is around 6.8 degrees Celsius with big temperature difference between day and night. The best travel time to Datong is between April to October, during November to March, it is cool with snow at the whole area, which will effects the travel to some extend.

In spring time, the weather is changeable in March to May, windy and dry with occasional snows. There is no much rain during summer, and the temperature will falls at night time; Autumn is cool, dry and sunny and sweaters and jackets are need to pack; Winter is cold and long, with heavy wind. Do prepare warm clothes and accessories like hat, scarves and gloves.
