Jiangsu

Jiangsu is an eastern coastal province of China. The name comes from jiang, short for the city of Jiangning (now Nanjing), and su, for the city of Suzhou. The abbreviation for this province is Su, the second character of its name. Jiangsu is home to many of the world's leading exporters of electronic equipment, chemicals and textiles.

Since ancient times, south Jiangsu has been famed for its prosperity and opulence, and simply inserting south Jiangsu place names (Suzhou, Yangzhou, etc.) into poetry gave an effect of dreaminess, as was indeed done by many famous poets. In particular, the fame of Suzhou (as well as Hangzhou in neighbouring Zhejiang) has led to the popular saying: above there is heaven; below there is Suzhou and Hangzhou, a saying that continues to be a source of pride for the people of these two still prosperous cities. Similarly, the prosperity of Yangzhou has led poets to dream of: with a hundred thousand strings of coins wrapped around the waist, riding a crane down to Yangzhou.

Wuzhen Ancient Village

Located in the suburbs of Suzhou, the ancient village of Wuzhen has a population of 12,000 people. The town has a rich history and its architectural treasures are breathtaking.

Grand Canal

The Grand Canal runs from Beijing to Hangzhou. It is the longest man-made river in the world, ten times longer than the Suez Canal and twenty-two times longer than the Panama Canal.

Humble Administrator Garden

Considered to be the finest example of a traditional Chinese garden, the Humble Administrator’s Garden beautifully combines architecture, rockeries, water features, and paths in a way to artistically mimic nature. The garden was built by Wang Xiancheng, a native of Suzhou.

Suzhou Museum

The Suzhou Museum, located in China’s Suzhou City, is a museum focusing on the ancient art and paintings of ancient China. The museum’s collections are beautifully exhibited in an area of 2,200 square meters

Mudu Village

The ancient Village of Mudu is located southwest of Suzhou City. It is one of China’s famous water towns. It has as many canals as streets in the town, which adds to its already picturesque charm. The village occupies an area of 34.5 square kilometers and has a history of more than 2,500 years.

No.1 Silk Factory

Founded over 80 years ago, Suzhou’s No.1 Silk Factory produces some of the finest silk in China. The factory is open to visitors and allows them to see how this luxuriant and most ancient cloth is created from the simple silk worm. Visitors can see every step of the process.

Lingering Garden

Suzhou’s Lingering Garden is one of the four most famous gardens in China. Occupying an area of over 23,000 square meters, the garden has a traditional Qing dynasty (1644-1911) style with exquisite rockeries, magnificent halls, and rippling water features.

Lion Grove Garden

The Pan Gate
