Yellow River Xiaolangdi Scenic Area

Xiaolangdi Scenic Area is located at Mengjin County about 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) north of Luoyang City. It provides beautiful views of the Yellow River and gorges, as well as the grand view Xiaolangdi Multipurpose Dam Project.

The Yellow River, with its forces of pouring down from the Loess Plateau, penetrates through JinShan Grand Canyon, squeezes out from Longmen, jumps into the mountainous West Henan Grand Canyon, traverses the Sanmen Gorge, rushes through the Bali Gorge, breaks from the last gorge-Xiaolangdi Gorge, and then dissolves into the North China Plain.

The Xiaolangdi Dam is a great man-made project consisting of ten intake towers, nine flood and sediment tunnels, six power tunnels and an underground powerhouse for flood control, ice jam control, water supply, hydroelectric power generation and so on.

To admire the gorges views of yellow river, the three gorges located on the upper level of Xiaolangdi Dam is great choice, which is regarded the essence of the scenic area. There are three gorges; Bali Gorge, Gushan Gorge, Dragon and Phoenix Gorge has own characteristic and showcase beautiful water and mountain scenery of northern China.
