Luoyang Ancient Tombs Museum

Ancient Chinese believed that Luoyang is a valuable land with a good geomantic omen (also the reason that many dynasties set their capital in Luoyang), so many emperors, princes, high-level officials and other celebrities were buried in the Mangshan area of Luoyang.

Luoyang Ancient Tombs Museum was built in Mangshan Town, northern suburb of Luoyang city (6 miles away from downtown) in 1984; it is the China's first museum featuring ancient towns from many dynasties. With construction area of 8,200 square meters, this museum consists of a group of building complex in Han Dynasty architectural style

The Ancient Tombs Museum of Luoyang can be divided into two parts, above ground and underground sections. The above ground includes some exhibition halls that display the history of ancient tombs, the locations as well as funerary objects dating from Stone Age to Han dynasty.

The underground area is the most important part of the whole museum with over 20 ancient tombs can be found, which showcasing typical Chinese funeral and tomb culture from western Han Dynasty to Northern Song Dynasty.

Furthermore, typical colorful painted murals with distinct features also exhibited inside the museum.
