2013 Shoton Festival to Kick off in Lhasa Tibet

The 2013 Shoton Festival will be held from August 6 to 12 in Lhasa, capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region. Five kinds of events consisting of 17 activities will be presented during one-week festival.

Besides the traditional events such as huge Buddha Tangka painting display, Tibetan opera performance, singing and dancing, sports match and Damjering horse racing, the committee will also hold activities such as singing competition, flower exhibition, Gajilin barley wine festival etc., according to the organizing committee of the Sour Milk Festival.

Themed on "Happy Lhasa,  Colorful Shoton", the festival will carry out a full-scale promotion of Lhasa City to the world through various activities in culture, tourism and business under the leadership of the local government. It will be fully operated by the market and supported by community.

There were more than 30 performances staged for 50,000 people during the 2013 Sour Milk Festival. A total of 35 contracts were signed with a total investment of over 4.5 billion yuan in the development of agricultural produce processing, tourism, handcrafts, etc.
