China Airport Economy Seeks Development in Regional Integration

China's airport industry will work to integrate airport resources in the Beijing-Tianjin-and Hebei region and promote the region's airport industrial upgrade, according to a summit held in Beijing.

The 8th China Airports Economy Summit, Nov 11, was focused on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development and airport economic transformation and upgrade. It examined the opportunities and challenges facing China's airport economic industries against the backdrop of the integrated development of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, and the Belt and Road Initiative.

One major topic of the summit was the airport industry development in Beijing with the city's further opening up of the services industry and the regional integration with neighboring Tianjin and Hebei.

As Beijing is a pilot city in that opening up, it intends to build an airport economy demonstration area based on the Capital Airport, the Beijing Airport Economic Core Zone and its bonded area. In addition, the city will also take advantage of the construction of a new airport in Beijing and the plan for cooperation between the Beijing and Hebei airport economies to boost integrated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

The summit also analysed the Belt and Road Initiative and its impact on airport economies along the route, new airport planning, airport reorganization and expansion, bonded and other airport economic areas, and international exchange and aviation metropolitan development.

More than 500 representative from governments, research institutes, universities, and various businesses took part in the summit.

Beijing's Shunyi district, where the capital airport and the Beijing Airport Economic Core Zone are located, shared its experience in developing airport economic industries.

With airport resources, the airlines and related enterprises, the financial industry, and high-end services, Shunyi's airport economic area has grown faster than the district overall.

In 2014, the area collected 8.25 billion yuan of local tax, accounting for 12 percent of the total in Shunyi district, and received 2.4 billion yuan of local public finance, 22 percent of the total.

During the summit, the China Airports Economy Development Alliance, the first organization in China's airport economy industry to promote communication and cooperation of airports and their related industries across the country, was launched by the Beijing Airport Economic Core Zone along with other airports, research institutes, and financial and aviation enterprises.

The summit is a landmark meeting of China's airport economy. It has previously been held in Beijing, Guangzhou, Guangdong province, Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Chengdu, Sichuan province, Erdos city, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and Wuhan, Hubei province.
