Shopping in Fujian
The forms of Fujian products are many and varied as a province located in the developed region along the east coast of the southern China. The trip would not complete without shopping in one or more shops and stores. They spread in many of the shopping areas or even all around the city.
There are plenty of souvenir shops and boutiques with special gift ideas are lining in the alleyways and back streets.When shopping in Fujian, there are two main cities cannot be missed, Fuzhou and Xiamen.
Shopping in Fuzhou
Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, is a treasure house of local specialties. It’s also the main industrial art producing area in China. Bodiless lacquer ware, horn combs, jade carvings, porcelains, Shoushan stone sculptures, shell carvings, golden and silver ornaments, cork pictures, Jasmine tea, Wuyi rock tea are popular with local people and tourists alike among which the Bodiless lacquer ware, stone sculptures and Cork Pictures are known as the three treasures of Fuzhou.
Here are some main business streets for the tourists to enjoy their shopping:
Wusi Road is a street mainly for brand clothes and tourist souvenir; Wuyi Road lies with massed emporiums and large-scale shopping malls; Taijiang Road is a market dealing with small commodities and second hand goods of special features; Dong jie kou is thetraditional business streets; Bayiqi Road is the oldest and most prosperous shopping street of Fuzhou; Aofeng Road is the largest wholesale market; Zhongting Street known for the first indoor pedestrian street; Zhongzhou Island notable as the first pedestrian shopping island.
Shopping in Xiamen
Shops are distributed almost everywhere around the city. However, the quality of the goods can vary considerably between shops.Almost all shops in Xiamen are open a whole week. Most of the shops open their doors between 09:00 and 10:00 and until 21:00 or 22:00 in the evening, but some would close their doors as early as at 17:00 or 18:00. Some of the best markets can be found in the Zhongshan Road of the Old downtown and Longtou Road of Gulangyu Island.
Zhongshan Road is a busiest street in the business center of Xiamen. The street processes hundreds of buildings with both western style and seashore features as well as hundreds of department stores like the No.1 Department Store, Hualian Mansion, and Tianshun Jewelry Shop, etc. Hundreds of restaurants with superb collection of foods are available here. The nearby street like North Siming Road and East Siming Road are also good choice for shopping.
Longtou Road of Gulangyu Island, the only way to the island, mainly deals in tourist goods, handicrafts, calligraphy, paintings. The native bead embroidery, carved lacquer, color prick, painted pottery can be bought here. What’s more, there are antiques and jades from all parts of the country. The place with many restaurants of aquatic products will also be a good choice for the tourists who would like to enjoy seafood.
For the travelers who prefer a heavy cultural atmosphere could make themselves comfortable in the Street near Xiamen University. The street has a cultural atmosphere similar to Xiamen University. Important bookstores of Xiamen are included here. Besides, food, drink, clothes, culture goods and sports gods here are all with cultural atmosphere.
There is a newly-built business center closed to the railway station. The largest supermarkets such as Wal-Mart, Printemps Department Store can be found here.
