Wuyishan
Wuyishan is a county-level city in Nanping prefecture, Fujian province and famous for the mountain with the same name. The Wuyishan mountains have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for cultural, scenic, and biodiversity values since 1999.
Covering a total area of 99.975 hectares, the world heritage site is divided into four core parts: the Nine-Bend Stream Ecological Protection Area in the center, flanked by the Wuyishan National Nature Reserve to the west and the Wuyishan National Scenic Area to the east. The fourth part, the Protection Area for the Remains of Ancient Han Dynasty is located in a separate area about 15km to the south-east of the others.
Attractions include mountains like temples, historic buildings, raft rides down a sensational river canyon. Various court officials, poets and scholars have lived here. It was a famous retreat for such folk. Cultural sites within the zone include the original cultivation ground of the Dahongpao tea variety, and a villa retreat used by Zhu Xi, a Confucian revivalist scholar-official of the rump or Southern Song Empire.
