Food & Cuisine in Luoyang

Luoyang has a long history, acting as capital of different dynasties, and the food culture of Luoyang also shows various local foods ranging from imperial dishes to folk snacks that travelers can taste on a trip to Luoyang. Among them, the Water Banquet, Carp dishes, Tangmianjiao (steamed dumplings), Hula Soup, etc are the most recommended for travelers in Luoyang.

Water Banquet (Luoyang Shui Xi)

There are 24 courses in Luoyang Shui Xi, a traditional and famous dish in Luoyang. The dishes will be served one after another, like flowing water; and another meaning of "water banquet" is that around one third of the dishes served soup or semi-soup with sour or spicy flavors. Luoyang Water Banquet was derived from the folk so that it is essential during the important feast.

Carp

Carp living in Yellow river are always famous with tender flesh, rich nourishment and fresh flavor; carp is the most beloved dishes in Luoyang, like "Carp leaping over the Gorge" is the most famous among all carp dishes.

Hula Soup

Hula soup is a very popular dish for breakfast in many part of China; The Hula Soup in Luoyang is tasty, with vegetables, chopped beef, peanuts are added into the soup. Local people also pour vinegar or sesame oil for more unique tasting.

 

Tangmian Jiao (Steamed Dumplings)

The dumplings are in shaped of crescent moon, featuring of thin wrapping and jade-like color.
