One of the symbols of Chongqing, The People’s Hall is a large complex which includes the Auditorium, People’s hotel, and the People’s Square. It is a favorite meeting place for locals.
Construction on the hall began in 1951 and it was opened in 1954. It was originally called the Sino-Soviet Building. Its architectural style is similar to Beijing’s Temple of Heaven. The People’s Hall occupies an area of over 25,000 square meters and is five stories tall. The dome is 55 meters high. . The Auditorium has 4,000 seats. In front of the hall is the People’s Square. The square has a fountain and state of the art lighting. Many people go there to relax, dance, chat, or just visit with friends.
