Xian’s Ancient Drum Tower is located near the Ancient Bell Tower in the center of Xian. Built in 1380, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the drum tower’s huge drums were beat at sunset to tell the population of the end of the day and during emergencies. The first floor is a museum of ancient drums showing different styles used in different dynasties. The second floor of the tower offers incredible views of Xian and the nearby bell tower. The drum tower is particularly beautiful at night when it is lit.
