Shuhe Old Town in Lijiang is a well-preserved example of township along the ancient tea route and one of the earliest settlements of Naxi people's ancestors.
Shuhe, or 'Shaowu' in Naxi language, means the village at the foot of the high mountain. The Town, only 7 km away from Lijiang's Old Town, is another place protected as a "world culture heritage site" in Lijiang City. It once was a significant birthplace witnessed the history of development of Naxi groups where you can appreciate simple and unsophisticated Naxi customs and culture.
