Zhujiajiao Ancient Town


Located in Qingpu District, western Shanghai, beside Dianshan Lake, Zhujiajiao is hailed as the No.1 Jiangnan water town in Shanghai, also called the "Pearl of Jiangnan"....

Core scenic area: 3.08 km²

History: More than 1,700 years. Villages formed in the Three Kingdoms Period, market towns took shape in Song & Yuan dynasties, officially founded as a town in the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. It prospered via grain and cloth trade in Ming & Qing times....

Honor: National 4A tourist attraction, National Historical and Cultural Town, Shanghai’s only ancient town applying for 5A-level scenic spot status.

Core Attractions

Fangsheng Bridge  

The town’s landmark, Shanghai’s largest five-hole stone arch bridge built in the Ming Dynasty. Standing on the bridge, visitors get a full panoramic view of riverside ancient buildings. Sunset here is ideal for photography.

North Street 

Known as Shanghai’s most intact Ming & Qing old street. Lined with century-old shops, local snacks and traditional handicraft stores along bluestone paths.

Kezhi Garden 

The largest private manor garden in Jiangnan with a mix of Chinese and Western architectural styles. Its name means "study diligently while valuing farming". It features ponds, rockeries, ancient stages and a library building....

Qing Dynasty Post Office 

The only well-preserved Qing-dynasty post office site in East China. Tourists can send postcards and stamp special commemorative seals here.

Yuanjin Temple 

An ancient riverside Buddhist temple with an elegant pagoda overlooking the whole water town scenery.

Featured Experience & Food

Take a hand-rowed wooden boat drifting along crisscross waterways to experience classic small bridges, flowing water and riverside households.

Local delicacies: pork glutinous rice shaomai, water shield soup, sweet soybean curd, braised river eel, osmanthus cake and pickled vegetables from Han Dalong Sauce Garden.

Transportation

Take Metro Line 17 to Zhujiajiao Station, then walk around 15 minutes to the ancient town entrance. It is roughly 48 km from downtown Shanghai and 30 km from Hongqiao International Airport...
