Jiaxiu Pavilion, a national key cultural relic and the iconic landmark of Guiyang, Guizhou, stands proudly on Aoji Rock in the Nanming River. First built in 1598 during the Ming Dynasty, it was initiated by Governor Jiang Dongzhi, with its name meaning “outstanding talents,” embodying wishes for local academic prosperity. The existing structure was rebuilt in 1909 during the late Qing Dynasty.
This three-story wooden pavilion, about 20 meters high, features triple eaves, upturned corners and white stone railings, showcasing elegant traditional Chinese architecture. Linked by Fuyu Bridge, it forms a stunning waterscape. Inside, ancient stone tablets and a famous 206-character long couplet highlight its rich cultural heritage.
By day, it harmonizes with river and sky; by night, illuminated lights create a breathtaking reflection. As a witness to Guiyang’s 400-year history, it is a must-visit destination for culture and nature lovers.
