This gigantic 236-foot (72-metre) bronze Confucius statue stands at Nishan Sacredland in Qufu, Shandong, Confucius’ birthplace, holding the title of the world’s tallest Confucius sculpture. Its 72-metre body carries profound symbolic meaning, honoring Confucius’ 72 virtuous top disciples. Built from 150 tons of brass panels over a sturdy steel frame, the figure tilts slightly forward at 15 degrees, shaped after Wu Daozi’s classic portrait of the sage with a gentle, dignified bearing.
Paired with an 18-metre stone base, the whole landmark overlooks tranquil hills and lakes. Construction launched in 2013 and finished in 2018 for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Tourists climb the 260-step Destiny Avenue, representing nearly 2,600 years of Confucian heritage, to admire the grand effigy. Rooted in Confucian values of benevolence, propriety and education, it has become a global cultural icon drawing pilgrims and visitors eager to experience the soul of traditional Chinese philosophy.
