Daming Lake, hailed as the Pearl of Spring City, sits in central Jinan, Shandong Province. Together with Baotu Spring and Qianfo Mountain, it forms Jinan’s three top scenic spots. Uniquely, it is China’s largest urban lake fed purely by converged spring waters, covering a total park area of 103 hectares. Its history stretches back over 1,500 years, first recorded in Commentary on the Water Classic by Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty.
The poetic line “Lotus blooms on all sides, willows line three shores; half the city lies amid mountains and lake” perfectly captures its scenery. Iconic landmarks scatter across the lake, including Lixia Pavilion, Chaoran Tower and Tie Gong Shrine, where countless ancient literati left poems and calligraphy. Marco Polo once praised its exquisite lakeside gardens in his travel notes.
Visitors can take boat cruises, stroll along willow banks, admire lotus ponds in summer, and watch the brilliant night light show of Chaoran Tower. As a core part of the 5A-rated First Spring Scenic Area, it blends gentle natural spring landscapes with profound thousand-year cultural heritage, a signature attraction of Shandong’s spring culture.
